Unlocking Success: An In-Depth Review of Dan Sullivan’s 10x Is Easier Than 2x

By: Dan Sullivan

“10x isn’t about more.  It’s about less… Going 10x is the simplification of your focus down to the core essential.  Then you remove everything else.”  Dan Sullivan

We all have the same 24 hours in a day, so why are some people more successful than others?  I truly believe it comes down to time management which encompasses prioritization, organization and simplification. This book was aligned with my thought process that I couldn’t stop underlining, taking notes and highlighting!  And the number of times I audibly and emphatically agreed with some of Sullivan’s points (while sitting in my office by myself) could be borderline embarrassing…

Sullivan maps out what 10x is and why it is better than 2x.  He also invites the reader to commit to 10x and transform their identity with learning how to increase standards and refine identity.  In the third chapter, he focuses on the difference between want and need, because as he says, the highest form of freedom is based on want, not need.  Sullivan helps readers appreciate 10x leaps they have made in the past which normalizes for future implementation, and then he also introduces a new concept in time management which is working qualitatively instead of quantitatively.  He sums it all up in chapter six and empowers readers to become transformational leaders.

One of the concepts that really resonated with me was the section that highlighted the fundamental freedoms that 10x people seek: freedom of time, freedom of money, freedom of relationship and freedom of purpose.  As an entrepreneur myself, all of these resonated deeply with me!

A few of my other favorite quotes/concepts:

  • “The goal determines the process.”
  • “In order to become the best, you must embrace the art of quitting.”
  • “Your ‘rare and valuable skills’ will produce work that’s ‘so good it can’t be ignored.’ Thus, despite you becoming simpler and more focused, the ripple effects of everything you do will have higher leverage and impact.”

This book is easily one of my favorite books I have read this year, maybe in my top five of all time.  Get your own copy here.
