Fresh Perspective: Gratitude as an Alignment Check
November naturally turns our focus to gratitude. We’re encouraged to pause, count blessings, and give thanks. But beyond the surface-level practice of making a “gratitude list,” gratitude can also be a powerful indicator of alignment—or misalignment—in your body, business, and wellbeing.
Here’s what I mean: when we’re living in alignment, gratitude tends to flow more naturally. You notice positive energy, progress, and fulfillment. Alternatively, when gratitude feels forced—when it’s something you write down because you “should” rather than something you actually feel—that’s often your first red flag that something in your goals, habits, or energy is out of sync.
Gratitude as Feedback
Think of gratitude as your internal feedback system.
- In your body: If you’re constantly frustrated with how it looks or feels, it may not be your body that’s the problem—it might be the approach. Maybe the methods you’re using aren’t sustainable, or the expectations you’ve set are unrealistic.
- In your business: If every win feels hollow or every opportunity feels like an obligation, it could be a sign your actions aren’t truly reflecting your intentions, goals and dreams.
- In your wellbeing: If you struggle to feel thankful for your routines or relationships, it may be that you’re overextended, lacking connection or neglecting the areas that actually bring you joy.
Reframing Misalignment
Instead of guilting yourself up for not “feeling grateful enough,” try reframing. A lack of gratitude isn’t a failure—it’s a signal. It’s your mind and body telling you to pause, evaluate, and recalibrate.
Ask yourself:
- Where in my life does gratitude feel effortless?
- Where does it feel absent or forced?
- What small shift(s) could bring these areas into better alignment?
Even the act of asking these questions creates awareness, and awareness is the first step to change.
Gratitude + Alignment in Action
When you use gratitude as a guide, you stop pushing yourself into routines, commitments, or goals that don’t actually serve you. Instead, you start to build a life that feels good in the process—not just at the finish line.
This month, I invite you to run your own “gratitude check.” Notice the areas where thankfulness flows easily, and where it doesn’t. Let those insights point you toward the adjustments you need to make—whether that’s in your habits, your business strategies, or your personal wellbeing practices.
True alignment isn’t about working harder or achieving more—it’s about creating a life where gratitude is an organic byproduct of how you live every day.
