Book Review – Likeable Badass: How Women Get the Success They Deserve by Alison Fragale, PhD
I Feel Seen.
This is what keep running through my head as I turned the pages of this month’s featured book, The Likeable Badass by Alison Fragale, PhD.
This book is all about how to be assertive AND adored, respected AND relatable, fierce AND fabulous – we no longer have to choose between being competent and being kind! Not with Fragale’s handbook for how women get the success they deserve!
And no, this book is not just for women. If you are a man reading this and have a woman in your life, you should read this book. You will be light years ahead of your male colleagues, comrades and co-workers – in the best way possible. It’s like cliff notes for working with badass women and will shed light on (and hopefully help you appreciate) the intentions we have and challenges we face when trying to climb the corporate ladder in our power suit and stiletto heels.
Fragale hits the ground running by pointing out the differences between – and relationship of – power and status. I had never thought about that much until reading this book, and I have referenced it often ever since learning it. And that’s just the beginning.
She then reviews the top mindsets that are holding us hostage and how to shift our thoughts from limiting to limitless. Are you like approximately 75% of the population and have dealt with imposter syndrome at one time or another (or even right now)? Yeah, me too. She reviews it, breaks it down and build us back up to reframe our thoughts and reclaim our power.
My favorite section of the book is called “Master the Plays” because in it she delivers the plan for growth and development to create better success habits. I love a good call to action and she includes several! Let’s just say my highlighters were busiest in these chapters.
Using research-backed strategies and relatable examples, Fragale has created the toolkit we all need but didn’t know we were missing.
So again, I say I feel seen, and I also feel prepared with tool and tips to take the next step in my own Likeable Badass journey.
And if you feel compelled, you can buy your own copy of the book here.
